Assistant Roaster / Production Team Member

Position Overview

The Assistant Roaster / Production role supports Edison Coffee Co’s roasting operations and production fulfillment. Working directly under the Operations Manager, this position ensures that our coffee is roasted, packaged, and delivered with consistency, efficiency, and care. You’ll play a hands-on role in maintaining quality from roasting coffee to packaging the product, while upholding Edison’s values of being Fun, Generous, Thoughtful, and Authentic.

Key Responsibilities

Roasting & Production

Assist in executing daily roasting schedules for wholesale, retail, and online orders
Perform sample roasting, profiling, and R&D projects under direction of the manger
Maintain roast consistency and record data using logging software and checklists
Bag, label, and package roasted coffee for wholesale and retail accounts

Quality Control

Participate in daily/weekly cuppings to monitor roast quality
Support calibration of roast profiles and contribute feedback during QC sessions

Inventory & Workflow

Manage green coffee storage
Track roasted coffee inventory and communicate needs to the team
Support efficiency of production workflow and fulfillment process

Maintenance & Safety

Perform regular cleaning and preventative maintenance on equipment
Follow and enforce all safety protocols for roasting equipment, forklifts, and vehicles
Keep roastery and production spaces clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards

Team & Communication

Support coordination with teammates, customers and delivery logistics
Help communicate team needs and workloads to the Operations Manager
Assist with occasional deliveries in company vehicle (Ford Transit)

Position Requirements

1+ years of coffee industry experience required; roasting experience preferred
Strong communicator, problem-solver, and team player with excellent work ethic
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable with repetitive tasks
Physically able to lift 40+ pounds and stand for long periods
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Flexible to work occasional evenings/weekends for events, trainings, or cuppings (very occasional)

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Hands-on production environment with exposure to heat, noise, and physical activity
Frequent lifting, bending, and moving of heavy bags
Fast-paced environment requiring focus, efficiency, and attention to detail
