Kuru Konga reflects the dedication of Abdurahman Mahdi, whose leadership at the Kuru washing station has helped define the character of region’s coffees. Working with a network of nearby smallholder farmers, Abdurahman oversees a meticulous process of harvesting, washing, fermentation, and drying that brings remarkable clarity to the cup.
The area that the cooperative comprises is replete with iron-rich soil. Iron helps strengthen the roots of coffee plants and aids in photosynthesis, both of which are processes that contribute to coffee’s complexity. A portion of what the washing stations earn from selling the coffee to importers is then put back into the local economy through restorative projects such as school renovations.
It’s an example of a social ecosystem with incredible outcomes, united through the precious gift of excellent coffee!
