The Guji zone within Ethiopia is known for its excellent output of coffees, and the Uraga coffee, our latest offering, stands as a chief example of the sort of potential flavors the zone is capable of producing. The coffee is remarkably floral, buoyed by a prominent cream-like body. The floral qualities make it a coffee suitable to being enjoyed cold, but can be equally enjoyed as a hot cup, where new flavors are introduced as the temperature changes. We love the variety found within a single cup of Uraga, and we know you will as well!
Uraga is an example of the sustainable agricultural practices implemented in Ethiopia. The coffee brought to Yismashew Drying Station originates from multiple farms in the neighborhood (called a “kebele”). Among these farms, the practice of planting coffee trees amongst other, taller trees has been adopted. The trees not only provide shade for coffee plants, but also absorb back CO2 emissions that come from the zone’s coffee production. Accordingly, soil quality increases, and therefore the quality of the coffee itself increases.
The Drying Station also serves the community around it by providing employment opportunities. Owned by Lego Tiba Malde, a woman who has been working in the coffee industry for 13 years, Yishmashew employs 130 women from the surrounding kebeles.
